Wednesday’s Child: Lucia, Unconventional Princess

Though our zombie kids are not as cute as their living counterparts, we foster a community that believes all zombie children are beautiful in their own way. This week’s child, Lucia, was once a charismatic five-year old with a trophy room of ‘Little Miss’ sashes and crowns. She appeared on “Toddlers and Tiaras” at the Little Miss Virginia pageant. Unfortunately, when Lucia’s brother was infected, he infected her too.

Lucia’s parents lost both of their children in one day. They struggled for months to keep up with the exile and guilt of having an infected child. When a vigilante group showed up at their house and demanded entry, they knew drastic measures needed to be taken if their children were to survive.

Lucia’s mother and father arrived at the ranch after a grueling ten hour car ride. Their little zombie children squeezed into dog cages and were covered under several layers of foam and bedding.  Lucia acclimated quickly (much to her parent’s delight) and was soon in the common area playing with the other z kids. Her teary-eyed mother handed our staff a bag of Lucia’s favorite pageant costumes, crowns and sashes. Later that evening, when Lucia was settled into her new room, she was given the bag.
The first item she pulled out of it was a large tiara. She snatched it up, placed it on her head, and proudly shuffled around the room, waving and smiling as she went. The next day she put on an impromptu fashion show in the common area. Soon she had some of the other girls trailing behind her like little stars pulled into the orbit of a bigger star. One of our staff members assembled a small stage and installed it in the corner of the cafeteria. Lucia was entranced. That night for dinner she attempted to recreate her dance routine from her pageant days. The other zombie kids clapped their hands together and shuffled along. Lucia may have changed in many ways, but she has not forgotten the life she led before the Great Infection. Sadly, Lucia can no longer compete due to rules enacted to protect the other contestants, but which serve to ban zombie kids from participating.

The bias against zombies continues and we continue to fight against it.  This week a Facebook page sprung up regarding two young girls wanting to add a puppy to their family. The page received well over two million likes within 24 hours AND the family appeared on Good Morning America. Our Facebook page remains under 20 likes and no morning shows have extended an invitation to the Zombie Emergency Relief Organization.

We ask you to show that you are not biased against zombie children by liking our Facebook page. There is a handy button on the right side of the page and liking us will give you access to the latest news about free zombie books and other cool zombie things.

Remember, we feed the zombie children so you won’t have to.
